Mannello to hold Big Men Only Football
Camp Rich Mannello believes offensive and defensive linemen speak a different
language. So for three days during the month of June, the King's College
football coach and some members of his staff will serve as interpreters.
Mannello is holding his second-ever Big Men Only Football Camp. The camp,
strictly for offensive and defensive linemen only entering grades 7 through
12, will be held June 17-19th at King's College Betzler Fields.
On Tuesday, June 17th, the camp will run from 5-8 p.m. The following two
nights it will be from 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, June 20th will be reserved as a
makeup night in case of inclement weather. Players must provide their own
cleats and proper drill attire. No helmets or shoulder pads are required.
All field equipment will be provided on site.
"Whatever the kids can learn at this camp will be a great addition to what
they already have learned from their own coaches," said Mannello who wanted
to wait until he felt his King's program had built enough of a tradition to
have a camp like this. "It's early enough in the summer where if they commit
themselves to the stuff we will be teaching, they can carry what they
learned into their summer conditioning drills."
Mannello will break the campers into groups based on age and ability. It is
then when Mannello and his staff will begin instructing on such topics as
drive block progression, combination blocking, technique, scheme principles,
pass protection progression and individual technique for the offensive line.
"The kids will get a lot of fundamental work," Mannello said. "We are going
to make it competitive. At the end of the night we are going to incorporate
pass or run blocking techniques into some type of games for the kids."
Cost of the camp is $90 per camper with a sibling discount of $70 per
camper. All applications received on or before May 31st may automatically
deduct $10 from the total camp cost. King's College coaches assisting Mannello include Fred Klein, Nick Ametrano, Ray Yakavonis and Tom
Oldziejewski.
Anyone interested in the camp can call 208-5900 ext. 5378.
